Sublette County, Wyoming: demographicsSublette County is located in the U.S. state of Wyoming. The center of Sublette County is positioned at 42.750949 N latitude and 109.991147 W longitude (decimal degrees). The county was founded in 1921 and its county seat is Pinedale. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 4935.65 square miles (12783.29 km²); 4882.57 square miles (12645.81 km²) is land and 53.08 square miles (137.48 km²) is water. Sublette County had a population of 8456 according to the 2008 U.S. Census estimates(1). The numeric change in resident total population from 7/1/2007 to 7/1/2008 was 508. The population change between 2000 and 2008 constitutes 29.68%. The detailed demographic indices for the county are presented in the table below.
At the 2000 Census, there were 5,920 people, 2,371 households, and 1,707 families residing in Sublette County. The population density was 1.21 people per square mile (0.47 per km2) of land area. The median age of population was 39.8. Males comprised 51.06% of total population and had a median age of 39.8, while females constituted 48.94% of total population and had a median age of 39.7. In Sublette County the population was spread out with 25.78% under the age of 18, 10.98% from 18 to 29, 32.06% from 30 to 49, 19.17% from 50 to 64, and 12.01% who were 65 years of age or older. The population under 20 years old constituted 27.65% of total population, 51.50% of them were males while 48.50% were females. The racial structure of Sublette County was 97.48% White, 0.20% Black or African American, 0.49% American Indian and Alaska Native, 0.24% Asian, 0.08% Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander, 0.52% from some other race and 0.98% from two or more races. 1.89% of the total population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. The average household size was 2.47. One person households account for 23.58% while two or more person households account for 76.42% of all households in Sublette County. Households with married couple families were 63.35%, female householder with no husband present were 5.27%, male householder with no wife present were 3.37%, and non-family households were 4.43%. Married-couple family households with own children under 18 years were 26.57% while those with no own children under 18 years were 36.78% of all households. Households with one or more people 65 years and over comprised 19.87% of total households. Of total households in Sublette County, 93.47% were English speaking households, 3.92% - Spanish speaking households, 1.90% - other Indo-European language households, 0.72% - Asian and Pacific Island language households, and 0% - other language households. The average family size was 2.91. Married-couple families with own children under 18 years were 36.91% and those with no own children under 18 years were 51.08% of all families in Sublette County. Other families comprised 12.01% of all families. In 2000 there were 3,552 housing units in Sublette County. The density of housing units was 0.73 housing units per square mile (0.28 per km2) of land area. Housing units occupied by owners account for 48.90% while those occupied by renters account for 17.85% of total housing units. 33.25% of all housing units were vacant. There were 2,971 workers 16 years and over in Sublette County in 2000; 22.42% of them were working in their place of residence, 26.25% were working outside their place of residence, while 51.33% of them were not residing in a place of the county. Of total population 16 years and over in labor force in the county, male were 56.99% while female were 43.01%. The 1999 median income for a household in Sublette County was $39,044 and the median income for a family was $45,000. The per capita income for the county was $20,056. About 9.70% of the population had an income below poverty level. Out of the total population, 8.72% of those under 65 years, 0.70% of those from 65 to 74 years, and 0.27% of those over 74 years were living below the poverty line.
